Understanding Diabetes
Diabetes Mellitus affects the way that blood sugar (glucose) is processed and handled in your body.
When working normally, our bodies produce a hormone called insulin, and insulin helps sugar get into our cells. When a person has diabetes, something breaks down in this process. There are multiple types of diabetes including Type 1, Type 2, LADA, and MODY.
At Ryse Health, we have diabetes doctors, specialized nurse practitioners, and a care team supporting patients with diabetes. Though there is no cure for diabetes, with support, people with diabetes can live long and healthy lives.

Types of Diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes (T1D)
Occurs when your body doesn’t produce insulin, usually because your immune system attacks the cells that produce insulin.
Type 2 Diabetes (T2D)
Occurs when your body no longer reacts to insulin as it should and, potentially, no longer makes enough insulin.
Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA)
Occurs when the amount of insulin your body produces declines gradually from attacks on the cells that produce insulin; LADA is sometimes referred to as Type 1.5.
Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY)
Occurs when there is a specific inherited genetic mutation that affects how your body makes and uses insulin; MODY is sometimes referred to as monogenic diabetes.
People with Type 2 diabetes may even be able to push their diabetes into remission, what some call “diabetes reversal”.
